Monday’s weather was no supposed to be so good, but it turned out great for golf. We started at Irondequoit C.C. at 9:00AM in a light drizzle. We had the course to ourselfs and did not have to rush. The course was in great shape and we started with a birdie in our group and walked off 18 with 2 more birdies. We all did not play very well, but we enjoyed each other’s company. Golf is really relaxing when you do not have to play fast or worry about getting somewhere right after you are finished. After our round I took the guys over to the Pittsford Pub. This is a great local joint and we discussed how nice this little area of Rochester is with 4 amazing golf courses so close together. Right in Pittsford you have Oak Hill, Country Club of Rochester, Monroe Country Club and Irondequoit Country Club. These courses are all awsome Donald Ross designs. After lunch we went over to Oak Hill and got ready to tee it up. We were all really excited about playing the East Course there. I have played the West course before and love it. But we all have seen PGA Championship held there and we will see it there again in 2013. The first hole is a slight dogleg left, long Par 4. I smoked a drive in the fairway and knocked a 7 Iron to 4 feet. One hole done and 1 under. The rest of the round was not as great as the first hole. As you play the course you begin to realize how precise each shot has to be. Every shot into a green has to be on line or you are in some sort of trouble. Each hole has little run up areas but they are tiny, and then they have great bunkers around all the greens. The 13th hole is awsome, a long par 5 (that has never been reached in 2) up a hill with bunkers all around the green. This is the one hole that I remembered after walking off the course. So after we made some bogies on 18 we decided to take a last look at the awsome clubhouse and proshop. Then we went to Dinosaur BBQ and ate some awsome dinner. We talked about our great day and started discussing our next trip. I don’t know if we will beable to top it becasue this was pretty good. In the car on the ride home we were discussing how there were not to many memorable holes. After a night’s sleep I woke up remembering all the holes and how great they all were. Oak Hill East is not number 1 on my list but it is number 2 behind Sawgrass.
